Nominate the Community Coach and Scholastic Coach of the Year
Football BC is asking supporters of a Football BC member organization to send in nominations for this year’s Community Coach of the Year and/or Scholastic Coach of the Year. The winning coach(es) will be honoured at the 2010 BC Lions Orange Helmet Awards Dinner.
The Community Coach of the Year award can be any coach of a BC Community Football Team (BCCFA) or a BC Junior Football Team (BCFC). The Scholastic Coach of the Year award can be any coach of a BC High School Football Team or a BC University Football Team. Nominations are not limited to head coaches, but can include assistant coaches or position coaches. Eligible coaches are those who have resided in BC or whose primary coaching responsibility was in BC during the 2009 calendar year. Nominees will be judged for their overall performance and service to amateur football in BC.
Fully completed nomination forms and citations must be received by Friday, December 11, 2009. Nominations will not be accepted verbally or by phone.

On October 2nd, the BC Lions hosted their annual Salute to Amateur Football night by showcasing several amateur football teams from BC during the half-time show. Football BC took part in the festivities and we have the picture to prove it.

City of Vancouver seeking input on new Synthetic Turf Field locations
The City of Vancouver is hosting several open houses and is inviting members of the public to attend and learn about proposed synthetic turf fields. Members of the football community are encouraged to attend these open houses to give their input on where you would like to see these fields being built and to help ensure that these fields will be football friendly as
well.
The open houses are being held in order to gather public input into where the next two fields should be built. The following sites have been shortlisted for consideration:

Jericho Park (east or west field) –
1700 Discovery St.

Memorial South Park Oval or NW Field –
41st Avenue at Prince Albert

Rupert Park North – Rupert at Kitchener
-
Beaconsfield Park all-weather field –
Slocan and 17th Ave.
Open houses will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the following Community
Centres:

NFL Youth Coach of the Year
Football BC would like to remind all CIS players that nominations for The Home Depot NFL Coach of the Year are now being accepted. For more information or to nominate your high school or community coach, visit

and look for the nomination form under the ‘Programs’ section of the website. The deadline for submissions if November 5th.

Chunky MVC: Most Valuable Coach Contest
Campbell’s Chunky and TSN are teaming up with the Coaching Association of Canada in recognizing the contributions of an estimated 1.8 million Canadian coaches. The program encourages Canadians who are involved in community, amateur and competitive sports to nominate a coach who has made a real difference in their lives and the lives of others by reflecting and promoting the values of leadership, activeness and community. The winner will receive a prize package valued at $25,000 for his or her athletes and community.
Nominations will be accepted from September 14, 2009 to January 6, 2010. You must have your coach’s consent prior to nomination and must provide your coach’s contact information. For more information and to nominate your coach, visit

Junior
Player Development 6-on-6 Football Weekend at the
Ske’lep School of Excellence
The
Ske’lep School of Excellence in Kamloops, BC will be
hosting the Junior Player Development 6-on-6 Football
Weekend from Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October
25th. The camp is open to all boys and girls, aged
11-14, who currently attend the Ske’lep or
Skeetchestn schools.
The event introduces students to the game of football
and gives participants the opportunity to gain some
hands-on experience in full equipment. Students will
also be introduced to valuable life and sport learning
skills such as teamwork, fair play and effort.
The camp will be run by NCCP Coaches Brian Olthuis,
Duncan Olthuis, Glenn Armstrong, Darryl Chow, Dave
Arthurs and Tracey Nobel. It will also feature special
guest Josh Sacobie, former Ottawa Gee Gee quarterback
and Hec Creighton Nominee for best player in Canadian
University Football. Josh grew up in First Nation
communities near Fredericton, New Brunswick and is a
noted motivational speaker focusing on building
self-esteem and fostering positive living in the
First Nation area.
The itinerary for the event is as follow:
Friday, October 23

Saturday, October 24

Reebok-CFL Best move competition is now underway
August 26, 2009
Reebok Football wants you to vote for your favourite
CFL moves for a chance to win a trip for two to the
2009 Grey Cup Game in Calgary as well as great weekly
prizes.
Your vote will determine which CFL player earns the
bragging rights as the player with the Reebok-CFL Best
Move. The players involved in the competition are:
