Football BC coaches held a pilot of the Safe Contact Clinic this past weekend. This clinic is one that will soon be offered to other associations and clubs.
In this clinic, a group of experienced coaches (i.e. ones who have already completed their NCCP training) are taken through the Safe Tackling Technique breaking down the fundamentals and reviewing drills to enhance each players' competence and confidence with the techniques.
Parents and players are then invited to join the coaches as the players participate in a Safe Contact Tackling Technique practice. At the end of the practice, there is a debrief with all to review the practice.
The format is aimed at educating coaches, players and parents on the efforts being made to make contact safer and decrease the risks for players.
Football BC would like to thank coaches Jerome Erdman, Will Loftus and Mike Derksen for being a part of the pilot session for the Safe Contact Clinic and for stepping up and taking leadership to help improve the game of football.
