Veteran NFL Player Agent Zeke Sandhu and new UBC head coach Blake Nill highlight list of speakers at Football BC Provincial Conference this weekend!

Football BC will be holding its 6th annual Provincial Conference on April 17-18 at Holy Cross Regional High School in Surrey and will be featuring prominent NFL Player Agent Zeke Sandhu and new UBC head coach Blake Nill as the highlight speakers.

A Safe Contact clinic will be offered free on April 19 as well ($75 value). Coaches who wish to attend the Safe Contact clinic must attend the both days of the Conference.

Registration is $95 for each individual coach, or $380 for a group (up to five coaches).

Vancouver-raised Zeke Sandhu is perhaps one of the biggest names in the National Football League off the field. He has been has been representing professional athletes since 1999 and his company, Elite Athlete Management, represents some of the biggest names today in the game including the likes of NFL Rookie of the Year Odell Beckham Jr. (New York Giants), Super Bowl Champion LeGarrette Blount (New England Patriots), Super Bowl Champion Ricardo Lockette (Seattle Seahawks), Super Bowl Champion Alvin Bailey (Seattle Seahawks), and Jarius Wright (Minnesota Vikings) to name a few.

Blake Nill is one of the most successful coaches in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football compiling a career record (regular season and playoffs) of 130-47 over his 17 seasons as a CIS head coach. As a head coach, his teams have made seven Vanier Cup appearances (1999, 2001-03 with Saint Mary’s; 2009-10, 2013 with Calgary) winning twice (2001 & 2002). He guided the Huskies to a record six-straight Atlantic University Sport Championships (1999-2004) and the Dinos to a record six-straight Hardy Cup Championships (2008-13).

The Football BC Provincial Conference is event welcomes coaches, players and administrators and features speakers from all across the football world at every level including CIS, NCAA, CFL, NFL, Junior, High School and Community.

Coaches can also receive their NCCP Introduction to Competition training at this clinic.

Team BC announces U16 & U18 May Camp invitation list

Team BC has announced the list of players to be invited to the 5th annual May Long Weekend camp taking place in Richmond, BC.

The camp runs from May 16 to May 18 with on-field sessions taking place at Minoru Park and on-field sessions, including an opportunity for the players to meet and interact with representatives from at least seven CIS Universities, taking place at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel.

BC Tough Football Development Camps continues this Saturday

The 2015 BC Tough Football Development Camps, presented by Football BC, the BC Lions and Game Ready, are a series of non-padded camps that will serve as preparation for each player's respective spring camps as well as prepare those players invited to a Team BC camp.

*This week's session will feature a special visit by NFL Player Agent Zeke Sandhu. Also joining the coaching staff for this week is former UBC Thunderbirds head coach Shawn Olson.*

Pros (from the BC Lions, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos) and provincial coaches will come together to create a high level of coaching for each player.

Each practice will work on football speed & agility, position specific technique & fundamentals, safe contact drills, 1 on 1's, and skelly. Each practice will then be followed by a one-hour off-field football session discussing topics such as nutrition, recruiting, video and goal setting.

No pads. Special guests each week plus prizes and recognition for players of the week.

Funeral details for Dan Doyle

A funeral for Dan Doyle will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 2 pm at Como Lake Middle SChool (1121 King Albert Ave.) in Coquitlam.

Dan Doyle, who passed away in February, played a significant role in the growth of high school sports in British Columbia, specifically football. He helped established the BC High School Athletic Association, as well as the high school program at then-Como Lake in the 1950's before establishing the program at Centennial in the 1960's.

He had been actively involved with the BC High School Football up to the time of his passing serving most recently as a Board Advisor.

Dan was inducted into the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, and was honoured with a pioneer award at the 2009 Orange Helmet Awards.

Westshore Rebels Spring Camp

he Westshore Rebels Spring Camp takes place May 1 -3 at Westhills Stadium in Victoria, BC.

Everyone is invited out to Westhills Stadium (located at 1089 Langford Pkwy, Victoria (Langford), BC), to watch the players of your team take shape, but interested players MUST register before April 15.

Players and coaches will be available for interaction at the end of field sessions. All players including returning veterans attending Spring Camp must Register and attend this camp. Lunch and a special Highlight Night dinner will be provided. Interested players are invited to visit www.westshorerebels.ca for more information and to register for the camp.

Football Canada makes Safe Contact mandatory

Football Canada officially announced last week that all amateur football coaches across the country are required to get "Safe Contact trained."

Included in this announcement is the requirement for all head coaches to take the e-learning module "Making Head Way in Football" available for free from Coach.ca.

Football BC has made Safe Contact mandatory since April 2014, while all Football BC in BC are required to have "Making Head Way in Football" completed as part of its concussion policy. The "Making Head Way in Football" component has been part of Football BC's concussion policy for the past two seasons.

To satisfy the Safe Contact trained requirement, coaches must:

1. Take the online "Making Head Way in Football" e-learning course

2. Register and attend a Safe Contact clinic

Football BC will be offering the Safe Contact clinic free-of-charge on April 19 for all those coaches that attend the Football BC Provincial Conference on April 17-18.

Football BC's elementary school skills program is open to all school aged children and is conducted during regular school hours usually as part of P.E. class.

This program allows kids to learn basic football skills from Football BC coaches as well as volunteer players from local high schools.
