"Football 101 for Trainers" is scheduled for this Sunday, August 12 in Nanaimo
The next upcoming "Football 101 for Trainers" course will be hosted by Football BC this Sunday, August 12 at John Barsby Community School in Nanaimo.
John Barsby Community School is located at 550 7th Street in
The course will run from 9 am to 3 pm. The course instructor will be Steve
Van Schubert. A brief bio on Steve can be found at
Those who have signed up for the course will receive an email containing these same course details. (Note: Late registrants may not receive a confirmation email but as long as you have successfully
completed the payment form then your spot in the class is confirmed).
You can still register for Sunday's course online, or any upcoming session,
here. There is a $10 charge for the course.
Specific locations for the remaining sessions will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. The remaining courses are as follows:
August 19 in Langley
August 26 at Notre Dame Regional Secondary in Vancouver
The program will cover the following topic areas:
1. Preseason Administration - medical forms, registration and concussion baseline testing
2. Kit Basics- taping and emergency medical supplies
3. On-field Protocols - coordinating medical personnel, roles and responsibilities
4. Common Football Injuries
5. Concussion Protocols - diagnosis and return-to-play
6. Conclusion - discussion period

Looking ahead to the BCFC Week 2
The second week of the BCFC kicks off this Saturday, August 11 beginning with a pair of winless teams looking to get on the board when the Chilliwack Huskers host the Westshore Rebels at Exhibition Stadium at 2 pm.
The Huskers were on the wrong end of a 64-10 walloping at the hands of the Kamloops Broncos last week while the Westshore Rebels were blown out by the defending champion Vancouver Island Raiders on home turf by a score of 44-14.
The marquee match of the week also takes place on Saturday with a rematch of last
year's Cullen Cup Final with the Raiders playing their home opener at Caledonia Park hosting the Langley Rams at 5 pm.
The Rams will be looking to build on their huge 42-14 road victory over the Okanagan Sun last week while the Raiders, as mentioned, are fresh off that convincing win over the Rebels.
Week 2 action will conclude on Sunday, August 12 with an all-Interior battle between the Broncos and the Sun at Hillside Stadium. Kickoff is at 5 pm.

Thunderbird Football Association presents Frank Smith Tribute Dinner on September 14
The Thunderbird Football Association will be presenting a special evening to celebrate the life and legendary career of Frank Smith. Join former
teammates, fellow alumni, staff, coaches and friends as they pay tribute to the man who put
UBC's football program on the map.
Smith, a 2012 inductee into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame, was the Thunderbirds head coach from 1974 to 1994 and was a two-time CIAU Coach of the Year. He guided the Thunderbirds to five Hardy Cup championships and two Vanier Cup championships during his time there.
When: Friday, September 14 at 7 pm

Jay Prepchuk/Mark Iannuzzi Quarterback and Receiver Tune-Up Camp
Jay Prepchuk (quarterbacks) and BC Lions' receiver Marco Iannuzzi will be running a
'Tune Up Camp' on August 15 at Renfrew Park from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
This will be a great opportunity for players to get a head start on the season. There will be a brief warm-up and a short breakdown followed by the quarterbacks throwing to the receivers.
No equipment necessary; just cleats and water. (QBs please bring a football).

Free, mandatory concussion education course codes now available for your club from Football BC
With the 2012 season fast approaching, Football BC would like to remind all its members of the updates to its concussion policy which now requires all coaches to complete a mandatory online course found at
Completion of the course will satisfy the yearly education program component of the Football BC concussion policy which was put into effect back in June 2010.
Each coach will receive a unique PIN number and password from their club team. PIN numbers and passwords should be requested from Football BC from the club's president or primary contact (such as a head coach) who can then forward the codes to the rest of their organization.

Game Ready Fitness
Game Ready offers year-round support for football training and skill development. They are local football stars from the NFL and CFL using their training expertise to give back to our football community.

This is an introductory level to fitness and explosive athletic movement. Program is geared to build
speed, conditioning, muscle endurance, strength and to help develop position skills. Total of 2 hours per week.
Varsity Program ($249 + tax per month) - for ages 15 and up
This is an advanced level of explosive movement, strength and power. The program is geared to make our athletes pound-for-pound the
strongest, most explosive and fastest possible. The training program also includes one day of plyometrics. Starting in
March, the training program will include speed training on field:
conditioning, agility, footwork, position work, 1 on 1's, and skelly. Total of 6 hours per week.
