Statement from Football BC Technical Director Dino Geremia regarding evaluation process

Football BC Technical Director Dino Geremia has released a statement regarding the evaluation process for Football BC’s high performance programs.

Team BC adds six additional players to rosters

Team BC has added six additional players to their cut-down rosters that were previously announced last week.

Four players have been added to the U-15 cut-down roster, while two players have been added to the U-14 cut-down roster.

The four additional U-15 invitees are: OL Tyrese Hogue, DL Andrew Becker, LB Justice Kremler and OL Dontae Bull.

The two additional U-14 invitees are: OL/DL Eduardo Gonzalez and REC/DB Ethan Mastin.

Football 101 for Trainers courses - next scheduled sessions take place September 8 in Nanaimo and Vancouver

Football BC's Football 101 for Trainers courses are back. The list of upcoming courses is listed below. All courses are scheduled to run from 9 am to 3 pm.

John Barsby Secondary School, Nanaimo

Sunday, September 8 - 
Notre Dame Regional Secondary School, Vancouver

The course covers the following:

1. Preseason Administration - medical forms, registration and concussion baseline testing

2. Kit Basics - taping and emergency medical supplies

3. On-field Protocols - coordinating medical personnel, roles and responsibilities

4. Common Football Injuries

5. Concussion Protocols - diagnosis and return-to-play

6. Conclusion - discussion period

Football Canada to host Junior National Team identification camps across Canada

Football Canada will be hosting a series of player identification camps as part of the process to select players to represent Canada at the 2014 IFAF U-19 World Championship.

Players born in 1995 and 1996 who have a Canadian citizenship and who are members of their respective provincial football association (e.g. Football BC) will be eligible to attend the camps.

Team Canada Junior will be competing against Team USA in a game in Dallas, Texas on February 7, 2014.

There is no identification scheduled for British Columbia. The closest evaluation camp to BC will be held in Edmonton, Alberta at the Commonwealth Recreation Centre Field House on December 15, 2013.

There are also tryouts scheduled for Guelph, Ontario (November 30), East Hants, Nova Scotia (December 7), Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (December 14), and Montreal, Quebec (December 21).

Team Canada hopefuls are required to bring their own shoulder pads, jersey, helmet, mouth guard and proper footwear to the tryout session.


BC Football Hall of Fame to announce Class of 2013 on September 14; Induction ceremony on September 15

The BC Football Hall of Fame will be announcing their Class of 2013 inductees at a joint press conference with the BC Lions on September 14. The 2013 inductees will then be formally inducted at a by-invitation pre-game ceremony prior to the Lions vs Montreal Alouettes game at BC Place on 
September 15.

UBC T-Birds kickoff regular season this Saturday hosting Calgary Dinos

The road to the Vanier Cup for the UBC T-Birds will start off against the defending Hardy Cup champions this Saturday, August 31 at Thunderbird Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm.

The T-Birds are coming off a 28-5 exhibition loss to the Saskatchewan Huskies last week.

BCFC Week 6 schedule - All games on Saturday, August 31

Westshore Rebels vs Valley Huskers - 2 pm at Townsend Park

The Rebels and Huskers are the lone game in the BCFC this weekend. Both teams are coming off a bye week and both teams are also coming off losses in their most recent outings. The Rebels dropped a 58-20 at home to the Langley Rams two weeks ago while the Huskers, who are still winless this season, fell 56-3 to the VI Raiders on the road.


BC High School Football 2013 Game of the Week schedule

BC High School Football has released their 2013 Game of the Week schedule.

All "Games of the Week" will be streamed live online at SportsCanada.TV.

The schedule kicks off on Saturday, September 7 with a contest between the Handsworth Royals and Carson Graham Eagles and concludes with the AA championship game on Saturday, November 30.

"Snoop" becomes all-time BCFC wins leader

Football BC would like to congratulate VI Raiders head coach Matt "Snoop" Blokker for becoming the BCFC's all-time wins leader as a coach in league history.

Blokker earned win #84 with the Raiders' 37-27 win over the Kamloops Broncos on Saturday surpassing the record previously held by Nick Kawaza.

Blokker accomplished the feat in just 99 games.

Hosted by Jim Mullin, Touchdown BC will run from September through the end of November on Shaw TV. On-going clips will also be available on Youtube as well.

Jay Prepchuk QB-Receiver Throwing Sessions - Wednesday nights at Renfrew Park starting June 26

Jay Prepchuk will be holding weekly QB-Receiver throwing sessions every Wednesday night at Renfrew Park from 7 pm to 8:30 pm starting June 26.

The camps will featured a qualified receiver coach working with the receivers doing skill work and running routes with the quarterbacks throwing to them.

Nominations are welcomed for the 2014 Inductions to the BC Football Hall of Fame.

Categories include: Athlete (both amateur and professional), Builder, Pioneer, Media and Teams (both amateur and professional).

The Hall is looking for worthy candidates from across the province of British Columbia, especially in the amateur categories.

Junior Varsity Program (8-13 years)

Starts April 2. Begins in Vancouver with Dino Geremia. (Note: This program is ongoing and will continue every month).

The program for this age group is aimed at improving physical strength while preparing muscles, joints and tendons for the demands of sports. Emphasis is placed on proper running and movement techniques, change of direction, agility and muscular endurance all aimed at injury prevention. Weightlifting is not emphasized, but rather body weight resistance. All sports welcome.

Tuesday & Thursdays. 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm. $99. Core Cardio Studio (3433 East Hastings St., Vancouver)

Varsity Program (14-18 years)

Starts April 2. Ongoing outdoor speed and agility.

Tuesday & Thursdays. 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm.

Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge 2013

The Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge has been postponed to Friday, December 13.

The event will be held at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The event is open to all high school-aged quarterbacks and participants have an opportunity to win a scholarship.
