Of Interest: Seattle Seahawks coach Peter Carroll uses rugby to tackle safety concerns

By Martin Pengelly in New York, Taken from The Guardian

The head coach of the Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll, narrates a training video in which he explains his team's approach to tackling and its relevance to concerns about safety in football.

"How we teach this system of tackling was recently inspired by those who play rugby around the world. Rugby players have taken the head out of the game and truly exemplified shoulder tackling. You'll see several clips of rugby tackling throughout the film"

BCFC Week 4 preview

After putting the boots to the defending champions on home turf this past weekend, the Okanagan Sun (2-1) will look for a repeat when they duel the Vancouver Island Raiders (1-2) again this Saturday at Caledonia Park. Game time is 4 pm.

The Sun manhandled the Raiders last Saturday scoring a convincing 38-0 victory leaving the formerly powerhouse team from Nanaimo in unfamiliar territory sitting in the bottom half of the standings. The Sun, meanwhile, will look to keep pace with the other top teams in the league by looking to score their league-leading third victory.

In other action this Saturday, the Westshore Rebels (1-2) host the Langley Rams (2-0) at Westhills Stadium at 4 pm, while the Kamloops Broncos (2-0) host the Valley Huskers (0-3) at Hillside Stadium at 7 pm.

Team BC releases U18 cut-down roster

Team BC has released its initial cut-down roster for their U18 provincial tackle team to compete at the FBU International Showcase in late December/early January in San Antonio, Texas.

The players were selected from over 120 athletes that attended the Team BC May Long Weekend camp in the U18 category.

The cut-down roster is comprised of 61 players. The final roster, which is expected to be named in mid-December following one final evaluation camp, will consist of just 36 players.

Click here to see the U18 Team BC cut-down roster.

For the players who have been named to the cut-down roster, Football BC will be collecting a deposit shortly (amount TBD). The deposit amount will be applied to your final costs for participating in the tournament and will be fully refundable for those players who are not selected to the final roster.

For players who wish to solicit sponsorship funds from local businesses to help subsidize the cost of being involved with Team BC, they can email communications@playfootball.bc.ca to request a sponsorship letter.

Note from U18 Team BC Head Coach Jay Prepchuk:

Congratulations to all the players who have made it to the next level of U18 Team BC. There will be a few more cuts after our practice in early-to-mid December.

Please note that we may add more players from our Combine/Camp lists to this final cut-down day in mid-December based on injuries and team needs.

The plan for U18 Team BC is to travel to San Antonio between December 28 and January 4.

Keep training hard and be prepared for this Team BC experience and representing a proud tradition of football in British Columbia.

Good luck with your season!
