Montreal Alouettes crowned 2009 Grey Cup Champions

Football BC would like to congratulate the Montreal Alouettes for capturing the 97th Grey Cup this past Sunday at McMahon Stadium by defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a tightly-contested affair by a final score of 28-27.

Last week, we mentioned BC was well represented in the Grey Cup game with seven BC-born players represented on the rosters of the two respective teams. Here are some of the stats from the big game by some of the BC-born players.

Alouettes LB Shea Emry (Richmond) and CB Davis Sanchez (North Delta) each had three tackles.

Roughriders RB Chris Szarka had three carries for 12 yards.

According to the CFL, the province of British Columbia was represented by 34 different BC-born players this season from each of the eight teams. We congratulate all the BC-born players on an exciting 2009 CFL season and we look forward to seeing them again in 2010.

From now until December 30th, students can visit Sportsnet.ca and register for a chance to take an NFL player to school. The program, now in its sixth year, focuses on inspiring youth to make the most of their in-school and after school time by making smart and healthy choices and by setting goals and working to achieve them.

Four winning students will be selected and have an opportunity to ride to school in a limousine with an NFL player and join him in addressing his or her classmates. Winners will also receive NFL merchandise for their entire family. Past NFL stars that have made the trip to Canada include Marcus Trufant of the Seattle Seahawks and Trent Edwards of the Buffalo Bills.
