Subway Bowl Final - Mt. Douglas Rams vs Vancouver College Fighting Irish

By Michiko Araki

Saturday, December 5 - BC Place
Kickoff at 7 pm
Watch online at www.SportsCanada.TV

NOTE: Previews of all BC High School Football games on Subway Bowl Saturday are available at

After knocking out the number one seed Terry Fox last weekend, the Mt. Douglas Rams are back in the AAA Subway Bowl Final for the fifth season in a row. This time around, they'll face off against the Vancouver College Fighting Irish in a rematch of the 2012 championship game.

Last week, the Rams not beat the previously undefeated Ravens but did so in convincing fashion scoring a 53-20 victory. In the win, senior Gavin Cobb rushed for a pair of touchdowns and also kept things interesting by throwing one of his own. Grade 9 starting quarterback Gideone Kremler threw two touchdowns in the win - a 44-yard score to Oliver Mackenzie and a 55-yard pass to Cobb. To round out the scoring, Declann Michielin rushed for two scores, defensive back Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty picked off Terry Fox quarterback Jake Laberge for a 45-yard pick-six, and Manny Lopez rushed 15 yards for a touchdown. On defence, Aidan Kachanoski recorded seven tackles and two sacks, Trystin Waters had six tackles and a sack, and Justice Kremler had five tackles plus an interception.

The Fighting Irish, meanwhile, are coming off a closer albeit still dominating 28-12 win over the New Westminster Hyacks. In the win, Jasper Schiedel and Alfred Dela Cruz both scored a touchdown, while Chris Ellis rumbled in for two majors. Schiedel finished the night with 15 carries for 106 yards while pivot Jacob Samuels went 12-of-19 for 166 yards, with five of those passes for 63 yards caught by Regan Oey and two passes for 59 yards caught by Rysen John. On defence, Ellis also led the team with 14 tackles, while Athan Mellios recorded 11.

In their last meeting this season on Halloween, the Fighting Irish came out victorious and handed the Rams a 20-0 loss. This time around, will the Rams get the victory when it counts the most? Or will the Fighting Irish avenge their 2012 loss to the Rams? Come find out at BC Place or watch on SHAW TV.
