Lower Mainland tryout sessions for 2010 Senior Bowl are this Saturday!

Football BC would like to remind all eligible players that tryout sessions for the 2010 Senior Bowl will be taking place this weekend for the lower mainland. Please refer to the table below for the dates and locations of all the upcoming Senior Bowl tryout sessions. Please note that a tryout session for Prince George will be announced shortly. Players eligible for the 2010 Senior Bowl are athletes that, under normal circumstances, would graduate from Grade 12 in June 2010 and must not have attended a previous Senior Bowl. Proper attire during the tryout sessions are shorts, t-shirt and runners. No football equipment is necessary during the tryout sessions. Registration is not necessary. The Senior Bowl is an opportunity for the top players graduating from BC Community Football and BC High School Football who wish to continue their playing careers to showcase their abilities in an all-star game format in front of coaches and scouts from the Midget (Community), Junior and College/University levels. ThinkFirst is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of brain and spinal cord injuries. Celebrating over seventeen years in operation, ThinkFirst has been heightening public awareness through education since its inception in 1992, when it was founded by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Tator. Football BC joined forces this fall and is working with Dr. Charles Tator, the Canadian Football League and Football Canada, in developing new concussion standards for football, across Canada. Football BC member clubs based in the Lower Mainland area are now being invited to send in their requests to have BC Lions Equipment Manager Ken 'Kato' Kasuya and Equipment Assistant Dave Henderson come visit their organization and perform a visual equipment inspection as part of the Football BC SmartCheck program. Teams are encouraged to make sure their equipment personnel are available so that they can ask these two highly-qualified individuals any questions they may have. Available dates run from Tuesday to Thursday evenings after 4pm from now until the end of March. 2010 Core Sports Group Football Camp
| Popular CFL veteran Kelly Bates is bringing his football fundamentals camp to South Surrey Athletic Park on the weekend of April 17-18, 2010. The camp, which focuses on Canadian Football rules, is offered to players from the ages of 14-18 and features top notch coaching from CIS coaches as well as players currently in the CFL. The camp is noted for its individual position instruction and averages roughly one coach for every 7.5 players. The camp offers over 10 hours of instructions and also includes strength and condition instruction and off-season planning. Registration is capped at 100 kids in the following group numbers: QB - 8 RB - 8 Rec - 14 OL - 16 DL - 16 LB - 16 DB - 16 A website specific to the Surrey camp will be announced shortly and registrations will take place on the website. Vancouver Convention Centre in support of BC Amateur Football. This year's keynote speaker will be former CFL and NFL quarterback Doug Flutie while the Master of Ceremonies will be his brother Darren Flutie, a former prominent CFL wide receiver. |

| Back for its third season, Full Speed Football Quarterback Academy consists of five sessions focusing on the fundamentals of playing one of the most physically and mentally challenging position in all sports. Skills that will be worked on during the academy include footwork, ball faking, three- and five-step drops, proper throwing motion, passing on the run, pocket presence as well as overall accuracy. The sessions are facilitated by former Vancouver College QB Ciaran Feenan. Feenan played college football in Eastern Washington for Walla Walla College and was part of the 1991 Sun Bowl Championship team. He currently serves as the Offensive Coordinator for the Notre Dame Regional Secondary School Bantam Football Team. Session dates for the QB Academy are slated for: May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. The camp is open to quarterbacks aged 10 to 17 and is limited to only 10 quarterbacks. The cost is $150 and includes camp shorts and t-shirts. All sessions will take place at John Oliver Park in North Delta, BC. Full Speed Football also a wide selection of camps for other age groups, positions and genders. | Quarterback Academy: The Jay Prepchuk Quarterback Academy is designed to offer young quarterbacks an opportunity to further develop skills required for high performance. The topics covered include throwing mechanics, play action pass, footwork, and reading defences. The camp will also feature guest appearances from professional, university, and junior coaches and quarterbacks. There are only four sessions available and each session is limited to 10 Quaterbacks. Receiver Academy: The Power2Perform Receiver Academy is designed to offer receivers and opportunity to further develop the skills required for this highly specialized position.
