Three members of Football BC family announce NCAA Division I commitments

Three members of the Football BC and BC High School Football family - running back/linebacker Terrell Davis (Mt. Douglas Rams), offensive/defensive tackle Mason Woods (Terry Fox Ravens) and offensive/defensive lineman Tom Clarkson (Mission Roadrunners) - officially revealed their 2012 college playing destinations on Wednesday at a press conference held at the Marine Drive Golf Club on National Letter of Intent Day.

Davis, the 2011 AAA Player of the Year, is headed to Arizona State University and is the first member of the Rams football program to earn a full scholarship to an NCAA Division I school. During his time with the Rams, he guided them to both a AA Junior Varsity and a AA Senior Varsity title in 2009 (he was named MVP of both games) and, this past season, led his club to a AAA Senior Varsity championship.

"I chose ASU because Coach Graham and the rest of the staff made me feel a part of their football family," said Davis. "They made me feel very excited about ASU and I believe I will enjoy a lot of success there both on and off the field."

Woods, who spent the past two seasons with Terry Fox after coming out of the Langley Minor Football system, will ply his trade next season at the University of Idaho. A two-time member of Team BC winning a pair of national bronze medals with the provincial club, Woods was named to the AAA Provincial All-Star team in 2011 and was named team MVP by the Ravens last year.

"I wanted to attend a Division 1A school and I chose Idaho because I was very impressed with the coaching staff, the campus is relatively close to home and the offensive linemen appear to be a very close-knit group," said Woods "I am really excited to be a Vandal!"

Clarkson, ranked the #1 recruit in Canada by ESPN, led his team to a AA championship last season while being named to the AA Provincial All-Star team. Clarkson is the first player in Mission Secondary history to receive a full Division I scholarship and will become the second Canadian to play for UNLV following in the footsteps of Saskatchewan-native OL Brette Boyko who was a Second-Team Freshman All-American.

"I chose UNLV because I believe it's a great school, and I can receive a great education there," said Clarkson.  "I really like the direction that the football program at UNLV is heading in and I believe they will be dominant in the Mountain West Conference in a few years. It has been my dream to play Division I football and UNLV is a perfect fit for me."

Over the past eight years, 22 high school football players from British Columbia have received NCAA Division I full scholarships.
