BC Lions' Buono up for Annis Stukus Award

Football BC would like to congratulate former BC Lions' head coach and current Lions GM and Vice President of Football Operations Wally Buono on being nominated for the 2011 Annis Stukus Award a CFL Coach of the Year.

In what turned out to be his final year as a CFL coach, Buono guided the Lions to an 11-7 record in the regular season despite his club losing six of their first even games and ultimately to a Grey Cup championship. The championship was Buono's fifth as a head coach.

Buono is a three-time winner of the CFL Coach of the Year Award having previously captured the honour in 1992, 1993 and 2006. This year he is going up against the Blue Bombers' Paul LaPolice and the Eskimos' Kavis Reed.

The winner will be presented the Annis Stukus Trophy on Friday, March 2 at the 51st Coach of the Year celebration being held in Toronto.

BC Lions' Paul McCallum and Andrew Harris up for Best of BC Award

BC Lions kicker-punter Paul McCallum (Surrey Rams) and running back Andrew Harris (VI Raiders) are among five athletes who are up for this year's Best of BC Award presented by the Province of British Columbia.

You can submit your vote from now until February 27 at Sport BC's website to let them know you think was the most outstanding BC professional or amateur athlete in 2011.

Harris began the year as the Lions' backup running back but took over the starter's role partway through the season finishing with 853 yards and eight touchdowns with 11 starts. In the 99th Grey Cup game against Winnipeg, Harris rushed for 65 yards on 10 carries, scored a touchdown, and was named the Most Outstanding Canadian.

McCallum made the CFL records books this season when he set a new record for most all-time consecutive field goals made with 30. The 19-year CFL veteran holds the league record for longest field goal made (62 yards) and highest field goal kicking accuracy in a single season (94.34 percent).
