Football BC Family Day Combine wrap-up

Football BC held its first-ever Family Day Combine this past Monday at the Richmond Olympic Oval where close to 300 participants turned out throughout the day for the free Play with the Pros clinic as well as the provincial evaluation sessions for Prep to be the Best, Team BC and Senior Bowl.

A special thank you goes out to all the coaches and volunteers who came out to assist with the testing and the event, the Richmond Olympic Oval staff, as well as the BC Lions' players Angus Reid, Adam Baboulas, JR LaRose, Rolly Lumbala and Dean Valli for lending their hand with Play with the Pros.

Provincial Evaluation sessions coming up this weekend in Nanaimo and Kelowna; Pre-register by Friday before 5 pm and save on the walk-up price

Football BC's next provincial evaluation sessions will be held this weekend in Nanaimo (February 16) and Kelowna (February 17).

Pre-register before Friday at 5 pm for this weekend's sessions to save on the walk-up price.

To pre-register, click here. The cost to attend an evaluation session is $30 if you pre-register and $40 for walk-up registration. The price includes a complimentary t-shirt. Credit card payments can be made if you pre-register online, but cannot be accepted on site.

*Players should bring their own mouth guards and dress in appropriate workout attire. Please have footwear appropriate for both indoor and outdoor workouts as, if weather if permitting, evaluations may take place outside. Helmets and shoulder pads are not required.*

All evaluations will include testing (40-yard, 10-yard, standing broad jump, T-test) as well as a skills portion (individual, 1 on 1s, skelly).

There are three age categories for evaluations: Prep to be the Best (ages 13-15), Team BC (born in 1996 or 1997) and Senior Bowl (for players currently in grade 12 who will be graduating in June 2013).

For Team BC and Senior Bowl, the evaluations also serve as part of the tryout process to attend the Team BC identification camp and the Senior Bowl camp, respectively.

The full remaining schedule for provincial evaluation is as follows:

Merle Logan Field, Nanaimo (11:30 am to 4 pm)

- 1:30 pm to 4 pm (Senior Bowl & Prep to be the Best)

Players who attend the Northern Combine can take part in Football BC's evaluation free of charge. If you are registered for the Northern Combine, we still encourage that you pre-register for the Provincial Evaluations but select the "Pay by Cheque" option and then email us at to let us know you are already registered for the Northern Combine.

*An NCCP course will also be offered this weekend

Advanced Senior Bowl registration now open

Advanced Senior Bowl registration is now open for players who were named BC High School Football Provincial All-Stars (AA or AAA) in 2012 or Community players who made the 2013 Star Bowl team.

Please note that players are only eligible for Senior Bowl if they are currently in grade 12 and graduating in June 2013.

This advanced period of registration will be open until February 18. Players who do not register by this deadline will lose their guaranteed spot as those spots will then be open to tryout players.

The cost to attend Senior Bowl camp is $220 (does not include accommodation for out-of-town players).

Senior Bowl camp will run during Spring Break week (March 19 to 22) at the BC Lions Training Facility in Surrey and will culminate with an exhibition game on March 23 (Percy Perry Stadium, Coquitlam - 2 pm).

More information on Senior Bowl, including camp schedules and a list of coaches, will be available shortly.

Dates set for 4th annual Football BC Provincial Conference

The 4th annual Football BC Provincial Conference will be held over the weekend of April 20-21, 2013 (the same weekend of the Orange Helmet Awards Dinner) at Notre Dame Regional Secondary School in Vancouver.

The 2013 Conference will run from 9 am to 5 pm on the Saturday, and 9 am to 3 pm on the Sunday.

The 2013 Conference will feature speakers from all levels of football including the NFL, CFL, NCAA, CIS, CJFL, High School and Community. This year, Football BC is excited to team up with the BC Lions, Football University and Game Ready Fitness in offering the best coaching resources to the coaches in our province.

The cost for an individual registrant is $90. For a staff of up to five coaches, the cost is $360. Registration will be open shortly.

Coaches will also be able to complete their NCCP training as well at the Conference. NCCP Community Initiation is available at no additional charge. NCCP Introduction to Competition is available for an additional $70.

2013 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner featuring Ronnie Lott as the keynote speaker

Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott will be the keynote speaker at the 2013 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner.

Lott, a defensive back, played 15 seasons in the NFL from 1981 to 1994 for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders and New York Jets. A 10-time Pro Bowl selection and a four-time Super Bowl champion with the 49ers (1981, 1984, 1988, 1989), he was also a member of the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

His jersey #42 is also retired by the 49ers.

The 2013 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner, recognizing the 2012 Provincial Champions of amateur football in British Columbia, will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver.

BC Football Hall of Fame seeking nominations for the Class of 2013

Nominations are welcomed for the 2013 Inductions to the BC Football Hall of Fame.

Categories include: Athlete (both amateur and professional), Builder, Pioneer, Media and Teams (both amateur and professional).

The Hall is looking for worthy candidates from across the province of British Columbia, especially in the amateur categories.

FBU Camp returns to Vancouver on May 3-5; Register online now using code "CAN3"

Football University's football camp is returning to Vancouver from May 3-5 and will be held at Vancouver College. Registration and detailed information is now available at

Top Prospects Combine

The Top Prospect Combine goes this Sunday, February 17 at UBC Thunderbird Stadium from 11 am to 4pm.

This combine is open to ANY High School, CEGEP or Junior Football player looking to play University or Junior football in the future.

Athletes will be tested in: 40 Yard Dash, Shuttle, Broad Jump, Height and Weight followed by Positional Drills then 1 on 1's.

UBC T-Birds Football Pass & Run Fundamentals Camps 2013

The UBC Thunderbirds have released their camp schedule for 2013.

Camps will be held in a number of locations including Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Kelowna.  (Please note that the Vancouver camp previously scheduled for January 13 has now been pushed back to January 27).

All camps are for players aged 12-17 and include lunch, jersey and individual assessment.

Lawyer Milloy & Golden Tate Football Camp

The Lawyer Milloy and Golden Tate Football Camp will be taking place from July 14-17, 2013 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. 

Campers learn from outstanding veteran college and high school coaches and the staff is complimented with Lawyer Milloy and Golden Tate and current and/or former members of the Seattle Seahawks. 

Campers are grouped by age, position, ability and experience to allow coaches to progressively teach basic and advanced techniques to best benefit each group. Campers are taught at an approximately 10:1 ratio. 

Campers receive 6 hours of instruction each day.
