Bassi-Fernandez Team BC Fundraiser Pub Night
In 2010, after a 10-year hiatus, the Football BC provincial team program (Team BC) restarted. That year, Team BC competed at the Football Canada Cup tournament in Nova Scotia and, despite entering the tournament as the lowest seed, earned a bronze medal by upsetting defending champion Team Ontario East.
The game demonstrated the toughness and dedication of the team and led us to adopt the #BCTOUGH motto. It also showed how players from across the province could come together and become a family - something that has been a common characteristic of every Team BC since.
Two members of that 2010 Team BC family who demonstrated that toughness and dedication are sadly no longer with us - Desmond Bassi and Johnthia "JT" Fernandez. Desmond was a star deep threat receiver who would always keep opposition defences on their toes, while JT was a defensive end who earned a defensive player of the game honours in one of the contests that year. Both were leaders on the team and wore the Team BC jersey with pride.
A group of Team BC teammates have taken it upon themselves to come together and honour their departed teammates, and help support the current Team BC by creating a special fundraising opportunity. The goal is to bring together as many alumni of Team BC as possible and help raise money for future teams.
