U-16 boys flag team brings silver medal home

The U-16 Team BC boys flag football team has brought the silver medal back to British Columbia from the 2013 Flag Football National Championship in Regina.

The boys were dominant throughout the tournament but fell by a slim 19-18 score in the gold medal final to Ontario. They finished the tournament with an overall record of six wins and one loss while out-scoring their opponents by a combined 206-62.

Drey Blair of Surrey was named the tournament's defensive MVP.

Meanwhile, the U-18 Team BC girls flag team concluded their tournament with a record of one win and six losses while placing in 4th place. They managed advance to the bronze medal game but fell 14-0 to Manitoba.

Football BC would like to congratulate both the boys team and the girls team for representing our province well on and off the turf.

Next year's Flag Football National Championships will take place in PEI.


Next steps for Team BC - FBU National Championship tryouts

Approximately 300 athletes took part in the tryouts last weekend for the FBU National Championship U-13, U-14, and U-15 tryouts that were held in Chilliwack and Burnaby.

With the tryouts now behind us, the coaching staffs of the respective teams will be making their decisions shortly to invite a select number of players to an upcoming training camp.

Keep watching Football BC's website for more information as the cut-down lists are announced.

Also, for those players who did not receive a t-shirt at the Burnaby tryouts, information on how they can receive one will be available shortly.

The FBU National Championship is a 64-team tournament that plays off in regional brackets and ends up with the final four competing in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas during the week of the US Army All American Bowl game.


BCFC Week 2 schedule - All games on Saturday, August 3

Valley Huskers vs Kamloops Broncos - 1 pm at Townsend Park

A pair of teams that suffered blowout losses in Week 1 will look to get into the win column this week. The Huskers dropped a 65-10 decision to the Sun last week while the Broncos were pounded 51-0 by the Rams.

Langley Rams vs Westshore Rebels - 4 pm at McLeod Athletic Park

The Rams will look to improve to 2-0 this week when they take on the Rebels in a re-match of last year's playoff semi-final. The Rebels dropped a 35-10 decision to the Raiders last week to open their season

Okanagan Sun vs VI Raiders - 7 pm at Apple Bowl

The featured match of the week takes place in Kelowna with the Sun and Raiders both looking to improve their respective records to 2-0 in this re-match of last year's playoff semi-final.

Once a coach has completed a clinic and has a NCCP #, they must take the online Making Ethical Decisions exam at If a coach has received an NCCP # from the completion of any NCCP course with football or another sport, they will be able to take Making Ethical Decisions.

Jay Prepchuk QB-Receiver Throwing Sessions - Wednesday nights at Renfrew Park starting June 26

Jay Prepchuk will be holding weekly QB-Receiver throwing sessions every Wednesday night at Renfrew Park from 7 pm to 8:30 pm starting June 26.

The camps will featured a qualified receiver coach working with the receivers doing skill work and running routes with the quarterbacks throwing to them.

BC Football Hall of Fame seeking nominations for the Class of 2014

Nominations are welcomed for the 2014 Inductions to the BC Football Hall of Fame.

Categories include: Athlete (both amateur and professional), Builder, Pioneer, Media and Teams (both amateur and professional).

The Hall is looking for worthy candidates from across the province of British Columbia, especially in the amateur categories.

Junior Varsity Program (8-13 years)

Starts April 2. Begins in Vancouver with Dino Geremia. (Note: This program is ongoing and will continue every month).

The program for this age group is aimed at improving physical strength while preparing muscles, joints and tendons for the demands of sports. Emphasis is placed on proper running and movement techniques, change of direction, agility and muscular endurance all aimed at injury prevention. Weightlifting is not emphasized, but rather body weight resistance. All sports welcome.

Tuesday & Thursdays. 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm. $99. Core Cardio Studio (3433 East Hastings St., Vancouver)

Varsity Program (14-18 years)

Starts April 2. Ongoing outdoor speed and agility.

Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge 2013

The Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge has been postponed to Friday, December 13.

The event will be held at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The event is open to all high school-aged quarterbacks and participants have an opportunity to win a scholarship.
