Football BC loses one of their own

Football BC would like to express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Myles Stinson, and to the entire Vernon Magnums organization for their loss.

Stinson was a member of the Magnums 2010 BC Championship 9-man Midget Team. Football BC learned of Miles' passing this past Saturday in an email from Magnums' head coach Bill Tarr.

Tarr, in speaking at Miles' funeral, made note that he was a positive role model for every single citizen in the North Okanagan.

            

2012 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner goes this Friday, March 30

The 2012 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner in support of amateur football in British Columbia takes place this Friday, March 30 at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver.

Thanks to all those who purchased a ticket or table to this year's event which will feature 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall-of-Famer Herschel Walker deliver the keynote speech.

Team West defeats Team East 14-7 in exciting 2012 Senior Bowl game

The 2012 Senior Bowl game is in the record books as a 14-7 victory for Team West over Team East.

LB-turned-RB Ante Litre had a pair of rushing touchdowns, including one on the first play of the final quarter for Team West to lead his team to victory.

Shawn Partington caught a pass from Sam Davies in the third quarter for Team East's only score of the day.

Following the game, the annual Senior Bowl awards were revealed.

QB Cole Meyer was announced as the Team West Offensive Player of the Game.

LB Kristian Abian was announced as the Team West Defensive Player of the Game.

REC Dallas Yassinsky was announced as the Team East Offensive Player of the Game.

DB Hayden Jeffrey was announced as the Team East Defensive Player of the Game.

The Senior Bowl coaching staff also announced the individual position honours from the camp week following the conclusion of the 2012 Senior Bowl game. The winners are as follows:

Quarterback MVP: Cole Meyer
Quarterback Most Improved: Jesse Johnston
Running Back MVP: Brenden Atkinson
Running Back Most Improved: Blake Torok-Both
Receiver MVP: Daniel Laventure
Receiver Most Improved: Dustin Rodriguez

Timing details for this weekend's Introduction to Competition course at Rick Hansen Secondary in Abbotsford

The schedule for this weekend's Introduction to Competition course to be held at Rick Hansen Secondary in Abbotsford is as follows:

Saturday, March 31: 10 am to 5 pm
Sunday, April 1: 12 pm to 4 pm

Please enter through the front door of the school. Rick Hansen Secondary is located at 31150 Blueridge Drive in Abbotsford. A map to the school can be found on the school's website at www.rickhansensecondary.com/contacts.

Please bring pen and paper and dress in comfortable clothing. Please also be prepared to be outdoors as well.

Venue for the 2012 Football BC Provincial Conference announced

The third annual Football BC Provincial Conference, which will take place from May 25-26, 2012, will be held this year at Notre Dame Regional Secondary School in Vancouver.

Notre Dame Regional Secondary is located at 2880 Venables Street in Vancouver.

A list of speakers and the schedule for this year's Conference will be announced at a later time.

UBC 2012 Football Camps schedule

The UBC Thunderbirds have released their schedule of upcoming camps in the 2012 calendar year. Please visit www.ubcfootball.com for costs and information on all their camps.

The schedule is as follows:

May 4-6 (Vancouver, Vancouver College): Football University Camp hosted by Vancouver College - www.footballuniversity.org 

May 19-20 (Courtenay, Woodcote Park): Best in the West Football Camp

June 23 (Kamloops, Hillside Stadium): Best in the West Passing Camp

Okanagan Pro-Am Football Camp

Participants can register now for the 6th annual Okanagan Pro-Am Football Camp (May 5 or May 6) in Kelowna, BC.

This is one of the top football camps in Canada where participants get to be coached by some of the best current former NFL and CFL players. Players will improve and develop their skills individually and by position.

28th Annual Western Canadian All Star CLAN Football Camp

The 28th annual Western Canadian All Star CLAN Football Camp - the longest running full contact camp in Canada - gets underway on Friday, June 29 and runs through to Monday, July 2. The camp features:
  • Over 3 hours of on-field instruction, including position-focused drills and group instruction
  • Live scrimmage on the last day of camp
  • Complete the experience by choosing the Live In option - players stay in SFU Residents with chaperone supervision and all meals are included.

Registration opens Monday, March 5. Register before March 19 and save 10%.

  • Note that registration for camp and accommodations are separate

Jay Prepchuk is currently the head coach of the Handsworth Royals and will be serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the provincial under-18 team (Team BC) for a second consecutive year this upcoming summer.
