2016 Senior Bowl recap

The 2016 Senior Bowl camp is now in the books. The event concluded with the annual Senior Bowl game this past Saturday which, this season, featured a unique format of Offensive vs Defence.

In the end, it was Team Orange (defence) scoring a convincing 34-11 victory over Team Black (offence) showing that truly defence does win championships.

Join the discussion: Should concussion policy be legislated in BC?

With the recent acknowledgement by the National Football League of a link between football-related head trauma and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the topic of concussions have once again been pushed the forefront.

Locally, much of the discussion has surrounded whether BC should legislate a concussion policy for youth in sports.

Football BC Executive Director Patrick Waslen has made appearances on several radio, television and print publications joining in the debate. See the links below for some of his appearances.

Congratulations Mark!

Football BC would like to congratulate Mark Nykolaichuk on receiving the Football BC Presidents' Award at the Sport BC 50th Athlete of the Year Awards on March 10.

Originally a native of Toronto, Mark was a standout defensive back with the UBC Thunderbirds and part of the 1987 Vanier Cup winning team. Despite being drafted by the BC Lions, Mark opted not to pursue a pro career and would instead stay involved with football first through coaching with stints at Vancouver College and UBC.

His greatest contributions to the sport have come at the administrative side. He served for 13 years as part of BC High School Football's Subway Bowl Committee and was in charge of putting together all championships and playoff games for the league. Most recently, he served on Football BC's volunteer board as the VP of Finance and Administration.

Congratulations Mark and thank you for all your years of service to football.
