Football BC announces roster for U-16 Team BC to compete at Red River Cup

Football BC announced on Monday the 40-player roster for the U-16 Team BC that will compete at the 2013 Red River Cup at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Red River Cup runs from July 6 to 13, 2013. Team BC will depart to Winnipeg on July 6 and return on July 14. A full schedule will be made available to players shortly.

The total cost for participation is $1,700. This includes tournament fees, flights, accommodations, meals and player clothing packages (including game jerseys).

Introducing Touchdown BC!

Football BC is proud to launch its new show, Touchdown BC!

Hosted by Jim Mullin, Touchdown BC will run from September through the end of November on Shaw TV. On-going clips will also be available on Youtube as well.

Touchdown BC is all about amateur football in British Columbia and will cover everything from University to Junior to Community to High School football.

BCCFA under-19 Flag championship goes this Sunday at Hugh Boyd Park in Richmond

The under-19 provincial flag champion will be crowned at this event which takes place at Hugh Boyd Park in Richmond this Sunday.

The action is set to go from 10 am to 4 pm.

The provincial championships for the U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-16 will take place next weekend, June 8 and 9, at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.

Football BC and BCCFA to field two teams at the 2013 National Flag Football Championships

British Columbia will be back at the Football Canada National Flag Football Championships in 2013 as Football BC and the BCCFA have jointly announced that they have secured two berths in the upcoming tournament that takes place in Regina, Saskatchewan from July 25 to 28.

The teams that will be headed to Regina to compete for a national title are an under-16 male team and an under-18 female team.

The U-16 male team will be team that is crowned the provincial champion at the Provincial Championships which will take place on June 8 to 9 at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.

The U-18 female team will be chose through a tryout that will take place on Saturday, June 8 at the Capital News Centre at 5:30 pm. The tryout is open to all females born in 1996 or 1997 and who reside in British Columbia.

Football BC to field three teams in FBU National Championship tournament; Register for tryouts now!

Football BC is excited to announce that, in addition to the expansion of our Team BC program with the addition of a U-16 team, we will be fielding three teams in the FBU National Championship.

The FBU National Championship is a 64-team tournament that plays off in regional brackets and ends up with the final four competing in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas during the week of the US Army All American Bowl game.

Football BC will be fielding teams at the U-13 (6th grade), U-14 (7th grade) and U-15 (8th grade) divisions, respectively. All three teams will be selected from players who attend one of the two tryout sessions that are coming up in late July.

NCCP Clinic in Kamloops cancelled; Intro to Comp course now scheduled in Kelowna for June 22-23

The NCCP clinics scheduled to take place at Thompson Rivers University on Kamloops have been cancelled due to insufficient registration numbers.

An Intro to Competition course has been added to the schedule for the weekend of June 22-23. See below for full details.

The clinic will take place during the BC Lions Training Camp so coaches will have the opportunity to visit practice and review as part of the clinic.

Once a coach has completed a clinic and has a NCCP #, they must take the online Making Ethical Decisions exam at http://www.coach.ca/elearning-s13846. If a coach has received an NCCP # from the completion of any NCCP course with football or another sport, they will be able to take Making Ethical Decisions.

Junior Varsity Program (8-13 years)

Starts April 2. Begins in Vancouver with Dino Geremia. (Note: This program is ongoing and will continue every month).

The program for this age group is aimed at improving physical strength while preparing muscles, joints and tendons for the demands of sports. Emphasis is placed on proper running and movement techniques, change of direction, agility and muscular endurance all aimed at injury prevention. Weightlifting is not emphasized, but rather body weight resistance. All sports welcome.

Tuesday & Thursdays. 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm. $99. Core Cardio Studio (3433 East Hastings St., Vancouver)


Varsity Program (14-18 years)

Starts April 2. Ongoing outdoor speed and agility.

Tuesday & Thursdays. 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm.

Simon Fraser Western Canadian All Star Camp

The annual Simon Fraser Western Canadian All Star Camp will take place from July 3-6 at Simon Fraser University.

This full-contact camp prepares athletes to be the best they can be through the highest quality instruction in a fun and positive environment. The staff consists of SFU coaches as well as guest coaches and there will be six practices over the course of camp culminating in a controlled game on the last day.

The camp is open to players from age 9 - 17. The cost of the camp is $375 for commuters and $560 for live-in. Single day attendance is $90.

UBC T-Birds Football Pass & Run Fundamentals Camps 2013

The UBC Thunderbirds have released their camp schedule for 2013.

Camps will be held in a number of locations including Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Kelowna.  

All camps are for players aged 12-17 and include lunch, jersey and individual assessment.

Lawyer Milloy & Golden Tate Football Camp

The Lawyer Milloy and Golden Tate Football Camp will be taking place from July 14-17, 2013 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. 

Campers learn from outstanding veteran college and high school coaches and the staff is complimented with Lawyer Milloy and Golden Tate and current and/or former members of the Seattle Seahawks. 

Campers are grouped by age, position, ability and experience to allow coaches to progressively teach basic and advanced techniques to best benefit each group. Campers are taught at an approximately 10:1 ratio. 

Campers receive 6 hours of instruction each day.

Jay Prepchuk Pee Wee Quarterback Camp


Jay Prepchuk will be holding a quarterback camp for Pee Wee players (ages 7 - 12) on Saturday, May 26 at Renfrew Park in Vancouver.

The camp runs from 11 am to 1 pm. No experience is needed to participate in this camp - beginners are welcome.

Participants are asked to bring their own football, football cleats, and water bottle. No football gear is necessary.

Fraser Health - Brain Injury Film Festival presents "Head Games"

The Brain Injury Program in Fraser Health is running a film festival in June as part of Brain Injury Awareness Month.

On Tuesday, June 18 at 7 pm they will be presenting Head Games - a documentary dealing with concussions and based on the book written by former Ivy League football player and wrestler Christopher Nowinski.

The festival takes place over four Tuesdays at Douglas College in New Westminster.

Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge 2013

The Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge has been postponed to Friday, December 13.

The event will be held at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The event is open to all high school-aged quarterbacks and participants have an opportunity to win a scholarship.
