Team BC May Long Weekend Camp opens Saturday

The road to having a chance to represent British Columbia in the football field begins in earnest this Saturday when the annual Team BC May Long Weekend camp opens for invited players.

All players who have been invited should have registered to confirm their spot by this time.

All team events over the weekend will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, while all practices and scrimmages will be held at Minoru Park, home of Richmond Minor Football.

The camp schedule can be found here.

Check-in will be at 11 am on Saturday morning. Players are advised to arrive early to help alleviate line-ups.

The May Long Weekend camp serves as part of the process to select both the U16 Team BC to compete at the Red River Cup, as well as the U18 Team BC that will compete at the FBU International Showcase.


Camp details:

- All players will receive a Russell Clothing package and practice jersey

- Camp fees include hotel accommodation and all meals at the Sheraton Hotel complex in Richmond

- Practices to take place at Minoru Park (home of Richmond Minor Football).

- Players coached by Team BC staff, and supervised by Football BC staff

- All players will have the opportunity to interact with visiting University/College coaches

- Camp concludes with a scrimmage game on Monday, May 19

- PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT TO CAMP
 

Team BC notes:

- Team BC plans to field two teams at the 2014 Red River Cup meaning there will be a total of 80 players to be selected as part of the U16 program

- The U18 Team BC will eventually be cut down to 36 players

List of Visiting Universities coming to the Team BC May Long Weekend Camp

Football BC is pleased to welcome the following Universities to the 2014 Team BC May Long Weekend Camp.
  • University of British Columbia
  • University of Manitoba
  • University of Guelph
  • University of Western Ontario
  • Carleton University
  • University of Alberta

SFU will have limited participation due to NCAA regulations.

A special mix and mingle recruiting session will take place on Sunday night of the camp weekend at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel where players will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from the Universities.

Register now for the "BC Tough" Football Camp

The "BC Tough" Football Camp takes place on May 24 at Burnaby Central Secondary School from 9 am to 6 pm.

This football camp brings players together with the top provincial coaches as well as players from the BC Lions and CFL.  The camp is for 10-18 year olds and costs $95 (t-shirt and lunch included).

This is a full-contact camp and full equipment is required. If you do not have your own equipment, you may rent them for the day at an additional cost of $30. (Must arrive one hour early if you are renting equipment).

NCCP Introduction to Competition - Football $160

For coaches that are coaching athletes from 13-18 years old. Coaches will learn fundamentals and structure to improve their confidence and competence as a coahc. One of the key components is the Safe Contact which is most critical for the contact game of football. Required 12-hour clinic. Includes instruction, manual, workbook and future evaluation.

Two Team BC alums picked high in 2014 CFL Draft


A pair of teammates from the 2010 Team BC that captured the bronze medal at the Football Canada Cup have taken the next step towards making it to the pros after being selected high in the 2014 CFL Draft held on Tuesday, March 13.

OL Matthias Goossen, who played high school football with the Vancouver College Fighting Irish before suiting up for the SFU Clan, was in the first round (2nd overall) by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Goossen's teammate on both Team BC and the SFU Clan, LB Casey Chin, who played high school football with the New Westminster Hyacks, learned that his road to the CFL will stay local after he was nabbed by the hometown BC Lions in the final selection of the third round.

Other players with BC connections that were drafted in the 2014 CFL Draft include:
  • DL Dylan Ainsworth (South Delta Sun Devils/Western Mustangs) - Saskatchewan Roughriders, 2nd round

  • DL Jaskaran Dhillon (Langley Rams/UBC) - Toronto Argonauts, 3rd round

  • DB Derek Jones (SFU) - Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 
    4th round

  • DL Dylan Roper (Carson Graham Eagles/SFU) - BC Lions, 6th round

  • REC Tore Corrado (Notre Dame Jugglers/SFU) - Toronto Argonauts, 6th round

  • DL Stephen Mawa (Terry Fox Ravens/UBC) - Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 6th round

Comox Valley Raiders Game Ready Camp


Comox Valley and Vancouver Island football players from ages 12 to 18 can learn skills from CFL pros at this camp that runs on May 17 & 18 (10 am to 3 pm each day) at Bill Moore Park in Courtenay.
  • Registration is $100 and includes all equipment except cleats. $80 if you have your own gear, or bring gear from your own association.

  • Gear up for local will be May 12 and May 14 at the Clubhouse at Bill Moore Park.

  • Registration is at the Lewis Center in Courtenay. Phone 250-338-5371 to register.

5th annual SFU Athletics Gathering of the Clan Fundraising Breakfast


This year's annual event will be held on May 30 and will be hosted by Brian Williams with Richard Sherman of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks serving as the keynote speaker. CFC National 7-on-7 tournament - British Columbia


Canada Football Chat is running a 7-on-7 tournament series across Canada this summer.

The BC tournament will take place on Sunday, July 13 at Mercer Stadium in New Westminster. Maximum 12 teams.

2014 Victoria All-Star Football Camp

The 2014 Victoria All-Star Camp will take place June 28-29 at Mt. Douglas Secondary School.

This Full Contact Football Camp will focus on Skill Development, Positional Play, Character and Team Building and is for all Positions.

The Staff will feature High Quality Coaching including former Professional and University players...Coach Tim Kearse, Coach Bob Molle, Coach Mark Townsend and a host of others.

This camp is for players aged 9 to 13 years old (born in 2001 to 2005) and costs $100 per player (includes practice jersey, lunch and report card). Register before April 30 and 
pay only $85.

UBC Pre-Season Football Skills Camp


This skills camp takes place on Sunday, August 10 at UBC Thunderbird Stadium from 10 am to 4 pm.
This camp will focus on developing the fundamentals at each position. The camp is divided into two separate focus areas; a) Run (OL/DL/RB/LB) & b) Pass (WR/DB/QB). During the online registration process players will have the choice to be in the Run focused camp or the Pass focused camp.

The camp will consist of 3 practices (2 on-field & 1 classroom) over a 6 hour period. On field skills will be taught and full equipment is required for these practices. The classroom session will include a breakdown of the film that is taken in the morning sessions and will be highly personalized in terms of feedback.

Lunch and Camp Jerseys will be provided for each player.

The cost is $99 per player (team rate available for 10+ players). The camp is split into two age groups: Junior (ages 12 - 14) and Senior (15 - 17).

30th Anniversary SFU Football Camp

New Head Coach Jacques Chapdelaine and the SFU Football program are proud to lead the 30th year of this full-contact camp that develops the talent and skills of young football players.

The camp consists of four days of practices designed to help take players to the next level.

The camp runs from June 26 to 29. Deadline to register is June 20.

The 2014 Russell Wilson Passing Academy

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is bringing the Russell Wilson Passing Academy to Ambleside Park in West Vancouver on Saturday, July 5.

All positions and skills set are welcome, and no prior football experience is required. The camp is for ages 9 to 17 and runs from 9 am to 4 pm.

Camp activities include positional training, team-based drills, film room study, and fundamental training from some of the biggest stars in the NFL.

Football BC elementary school skills program

Football BC's elementary school skills program is open to all school aged children and is conducted during regular school hours usually as part of P.E. class.

This program allows kids to learn basic football skills from Football BC coaches as well as volunteer players from local high schools.
