VI Raiders cap perfect season with Canadian Bowl Championship

Football BC would like to congratulate the British Columbia Football Conference's Vancouver Island Raiders for capturing their second consecutive CJFL Canadian Bowl title as national junior football championship this past Saturday and their third national title in the last four years.

The Raiders, who were national champions in 2006 and 2008, cemented their status as a junior football dynasty with a convincing 51-14 win over the Edmonton Wildcats in the title affair on a rainy afternoon at Caledonia Park in Nanaimo, B.C.

Offensively, the Raiders were led by QB Jordan Yantz, who completed 18-of-27 passes for 353 yards and tossed five touchdown passes in the win. RB Andrew Harris, who was named the CJFL's Offensive Player of the Year on Friday night during the Intergold Banquet of Champions, had 20 carries and rushed for 133 yards and had one touchdown.

The Raiders defence was also spectacular, surrendering just 44 rushing yards to the Wildcats. For a complete recap of the game, visit the BCFC website or the CJFL website

The 2010 Canadian Bowl will be hosted by the winner of the Prairie Football Conference while the Intergold Cup, which will be between the winner of the Ontario Football Conference and the BCFC, will be hosted by the winner of the BCFC.

Football BC would also like to congratulate the following BCFC players and executives for being honoured with the following CJFL awards handed out on Friday night during the Intergold Banquet of Champions.

BCCFA crowns 9-man champions

The BC Community Football Association held their inaugural 9-man championships this past Saturday at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops, BC and when the dust was all settled, three teams representing three different leagues within the BCCFA walked away with the privilege of calling themselves champions.

The VIFL's Victoria Hitmen, the VMFL's Cloverdale Cougars, and the North Football League's Vanderhoof Bantams were all victorious in their respective divisions as they became the first ever teams to be crowned 9-man champions by the BCCFA.

In the Pee Wee division, the Victoria Hitmen were dominant in their game against the Prince George Pee Wee squad defeating them by a score of 44-6.

In the Jr. Bantam division, the Cloverdale Cougars were just as impressive posting an impressive 56-19 win over the Vanderhoof Vikings.

The triple-header day out at Hillside Stadium clearly saved the best for last, however, as a pair of evenly-matched teams in the Vanderhoof Bantams and the Kelowna Storm did battle in the Midget division championship. In the end, Vanderhoof managed to weather the storm (pun intended) as they knocked off the Southern Interior League champions by a final score of 36-34.

Football BC would like to congratulate all the winning teams as well as all the teams competing in 9-man football this year on a successful season.

While the 9-man championships may be in the books, the season is far from over in the BCCFA as the 12-man season continues to go on as the teams battle for a chance to be at McLeod Stadium in Langley on Sunday, December 6th.
