Football BC unveils 2014 Provincial Combine Series schedule

Football BC has released its 2014 Provincial Combine Series schedule. The Combine Series provides players with an opportunity to be evaluated by Football BC's provincial coaches and is the first step for getting on the radar to be part of one of Football BC's provincial programs (i.e. Team BC and Senior Bowl).

For the 2014 season, all players who wish to be eligible to be a part of one of Football BC's provincial programs must evaluated by a Football BC provincial coach. The Combine Series provides an opportunity for all players across the province to have access to an evaluation session in an area close by to them.

The 2014 sessions are as follows:

Friday, January 31 - 
The Charles Jago Northern Sports Centre, Prince George

Monday, February 10 - 
Richmond Olympic Oval, Richmond

Sunday, February 16 - 
Merle Logan Field, Nanaimo

Sunday, February 23 - 
Capital News Centre, Kelowna

Tuesday, February 25 - 
W.J. Mouat Secondary School, Abbotsford


*Specific times for each session will be announced at a later date*

Football BC is participating in Purdys Chocolatier Fundraising Program and you can help raise money for Team BC by purchasing chocolates in support of Football BC. Monies raised will go back into the provincial programs and help offset for the cost for players who participate on Team BC.

Getting set up is simple! Simply visit https://www.purdysgpp.com/JoinAGroup.aspx?c=28908 and register a new member account (or use your existing member account and password if you have one).

Once logged in, you can shop online, invite other members and pay for your orders. Shipping is free for orders over $100. All orders must be submitted by Monday, December 9.

Team BC Grade 6, 7 and 8 Selection Camp goes this weekend (Nov. 22-23) at Vancouver College

The final selection camp to select the Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8 Team BC, respectively, goes this weekend (Nov. 22-23) at Vancouver College.

For those players who have been invited and have not yet registered, we have left the online registration open. However, you MUST register before the start of the camp. Walk-up registration will not be permitted.

Team BC U-18 Selection Camp - Registration open

Team BC U-18 will be holding its selection camp on Saturday, December 14 at Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex West from 11 am to 2 pm (check-in at 10 am).

Players who were previously named to the cut-down roster are now invited to register now.

There is a $700 refundable deposit that will be collected for registration. For those players who make the final roster, the $700 will go towards the $1,700 total cost of participation. For those who do not make the final roster, the $700 is refundable.

BC High School Football Semi-Final Saturday schedule released

The schedule for the Sr. AA and Sr. AAA Varsity semi-final playoffs taking place at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on November 23 is now set.

General admission tickets are just $10 and gets you in to all four games. The two Sr. AAA varsity games will be webcast on SportsCanada.TV.

VMFL/BCCFA Provincial Playoffs Update

It's Sunday Funday in the VMFL this weekend with the majority of their divisions hosting league finals with a spot in the provincial final on the line.

The list of VMFL games taking this place this Sunday, November 24 are as follows:

Midget (BCCFA Semi-Finals)

1 pm - Nanaimo Redmen at Cowichan Bulldogs (McAdam Park, Cowichan)

3 pm - North Surrey Bears at Langley Stampeders (McLeod Athletic Park, Langley)


Atom (VMFL Championship Final)

11 am - Coquitlam Tigers at North Delta Longhorns (John Oliver Park, North Delta)


Pee Wee (VMFL Championship Final/BCCFA Semi-Final)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats will battle in the 101st Grey Cup this Sunday, November 24 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

Nominate your 2013 Coach of the Year now! Winners to be honoured at 2014 Orange Helmet Awards Dinner

The nomination form for the 2013 Coach of the Year awards is now available online here.

As per usual, there will be two awards you can nominate your respective coaches for: The Community Coach of the Year Award (open to a coach of a Community team or BC Junior team) and the Scholastic Coach of the Year Award (open to a coach of a BC High School team or University team).

The award is open to any coach responsible for coaching a football team (not limited to only head coaches) who has resided or whose primary coaching responsibility was in BC during the 2013 calendar year. Nominees will be considered on the basis of coaching amateur performance only. The full list of criteria can be found on the nomination form.

The deadline to nominate a coach is Friday, December 13, 2013.

The winner will be honoured at the 2014 Orange Helmet Awards banquet. The date and location of the event will be announced at a later time.



                  

UBC Thunderbirds to honour Howard Tsumura

The UBC Thunderbirds will be honouring The Province newspaper journalist Howard Tsumura for his years of work in supporting and promoting amateur sport in British Columbia.

Tsumura will be honoured in a special ceremony that will take place during halftime of the UBC-Winnipeg men's basketball game on Friday, November 22 at the War Memorial Gymnasium at UBC.

SFU Clan end season with loss to GNAC champion Azusa Pacific Cougars

The SFU Clan concluded their 2013 campaign this past Saturday dropping a 28-19 decision to the Azusa Pacific Cougars at Terry Fox Field.

The Clan finish their season with a 3-7 record.

The Clan will celebrate their season and honour their players at their Legacy Dinner on November 25.

                       

Football BC elementary school skills program

Football BC's elementary school skills program is open to all school aged children and is conducted during regular school hours usually as part of P.E. class.

This program allows kids to learn basic football skills from Football BC coaches as well as volunteer players from local high schools.

Football Canada to host Junior National Team identification camps across Canada

Football Canada will be hosting a series of player identification camps as part of the process to select players to represent Canada at the 2014 IFAF U-19 World Championship.

Players born in 1995 and 1996 who have a Canadian citizenship and who are members of their respective provincial football association (e.g. Football BC) will be eligible to attend the camps.

Team Canada Junior will be competing against Team USA in a game in Dallas, Texas on February 7, 2014.

There is no identification scheduled for British Columbia. The closest evaluation camp to BC will be held in Edmonton, Alberta at the Commonwealth Recreation Centre Field House on December 15, 2013.

There are also tryouts scheduled for Guelph, Ontario (November 30), East Hants, Nova Scotia (December 7), Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (December 14), and Montreal, Quebec (December 21).

Team Canada hopefuls are required to bring their own shoulder pads, jersey, helmet, mouth guard and proper footwear to the tryout session.

Nominations are welcomed for the 2014 Inductions to the BC Football Hall of Fame.

Categories include: Athlete (both amateur and professional), Builder, Pioneer, Media and Teams (both amateur and professional).

The Hall is looking for worthy candidates from across the province of British Columbia, especially in the amateur categories.
