Making Head Way in Football free until October 27

Football BC would like to remind all coaches that Making Head Way in Football, the award winning eLearning series that instructs coaches on how to prevent, identify, and address concussions in sports, is FREE until October 27.

Starting October 28, access to the course will cost users $14.95/each.

Successful completion of this course will be noted on your NCCP transcript while completion of this course also satisfies your yearly required concussion education for 2013 as per Football BC's concussion policy.

Registration now open for Team BC - FBU National Championship selection camp

Registration is now open for the Team BC selection camp to take place on the weekend of November 22-24.

This camp is open to players who were previously named to the U-13, U-14 or U-15 Team BC rosters (or were contacted directly by Football BC and extended an invitation) AND is currently in Grade 6, 7 or 8.  If you are unsure of whether or not you have been extended an invitation, please contact

The cost of participating in the camp is $540 or $600 (the higher price is for players who require transportation to Seattle in first round of the tournament). The fee is refundable for those players not selected to the final roster.

For those who are named to the final roster, the fee represents the cost of the first round of the tournament in Seattle. Should the team(s) advance to subsequent rounds, additional costs will be announced.

You have the option of paying online (preferred) or bring a money order or bank draft when you check-in at the camp. Please note that Football BC no longer accepts personal cheques due to the high number of bounces.

Team BC to host tryout for Grade 6 team competing at FBU National Championship

Team BC will be hosting a tryout for players currently in grade 6 who are interested in competing at the FBU National Championship.

The tryout will be held on Monday, November 11 (Remembrance Day) at Burnaby Central Secondary School from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

The cost of the tryout is $35. No football equipment is required. Players should bring a copy of their latest report card to verify their grade.

*Note: Players who were previously named to the U-13 roster DO NOT need to attend this tryout. They will be automatically extended an invitation to the final selection camp to take place over the weekend of November 22-24.


Football BC elementary school skills program

Football BC's elementary school skills program is open to all school aged children and is conducted during regular school hours usually as part of P.E. class.

This program allows kids to learn basic football skills from Football BC coaches as well as volunteer players from local high schools.

BCFC to name Major Award winners live on Touchdown BC

The BCFC will announce their 2013 Major Award winners and All-Stars on Touchdown BC this Thursday.

Touchdown BC is set to air at 5:30 pm PT on Shaw TV. Replays will also be available online.

For viewers outside the Lower Mainland, the winners will be posted on the BCFC website immediately following the announcement on Touchdown BC.


Nominations open now for 2013 NFL Youth Coach of the Year; Deadline to nominate is November 4

The NFL Youth Coach of the Year award, now in its 15th year and presented by financial services provider BlackRock, is designed to recognize active community or high school level volunteer coaches across Canada who dedicate themselves to the development of young players both on and off the field.

Over the past 14 years the program has contributed more than $170,000 in equipment and facility upgrades to deserving programs. Any Canadian can nominate a coach for recognition.
Nominations can be submitted at on or before Monday, November 4, 2013.

Back on top! Raiders knock off Rams to claim Cullen Cup - national semi-final next up

For the seventh time in the last eight seasons, the VI Raiders are the BCFC champions.

The Raiders captured their seventh title in franchise history on Saturday afternoon with a 48-37 win over the visiting Langley Rams to capture the Cullen Cup.

The Raiders' season is far from over, however. They'll now move on to face the Windsor AKO Fratmen of the OFC in the Jostens Cup with the winner advancing to the Canadian Bowl.

The Fratmen defeated the Hamilton Hurricanes 16-9 last week in the OFC championship.

The Jostens Cup goes this Saturday, October 26 at Windsor Stadium. Game time is 11:05 am PT.

BC High School Football Game of the Week

The W.J. Mouat Hawks will look to record their third straight win when they invade the Apple Bowl to battle the Kelowna Owls, who are looking to snap a two-game losing streak.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna.

All "Games of the Week" will be streamed live online at SportsCanada.TV.

BC High School Football celebrates its all-stars and looks forward to championship weekend with their 12th annual Subway All-Star Awards Banquet.

The banquet takes place on November 26, 2013 at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

The SFU Clan Football Alumni presents their 2013 Legacy Dinner and Clan Football Awards on Monday, November 25 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby.

UBC T-Birds close out regular season in Calgary

The UBC Thunderbirds (4-3) already have their ticket booked for the playoffs but they have an opportunity in their regular season finale against the Calgary Dinos (7-0) to perhaps secure a better seeding.

The T-Birds battle the Dinos this Friday, October 25 at the University of Calgary. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 pm PT.

The T-Birds, who are coming off their most lopsided win in team history with a 60-0 blanking of Alberta last Saturday, could still finish anywhere from second to fourth place.

If they remain in their current spot which is fourth place, then they'll have yet another battle with Calgary to look forward to in the opening round of the playoffs.

SFU Clan play final road game of the season this Saturday against Western Oregon

The SFU Clan (2-4) will hit the road for the final time this season when they battle the Western Oregon Wolves (4-3; 4-2 conference) this Saturday, October 26.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm PT from Monmouth, Oregon. Catch the game on Clan TV.

The Clan bring a four-game losing streak into this weekend's contest while the Wolves have won two straight games.

The Wolves knocked off the Clan 30-9 at Terry Fox Field back on September 28. That game kick started SFU's current losing streak.

Football Canada to host Junior National Team identification camps across Canada

Football Canada will be hosting a series of player identification camps as part of the process to select players to represent Canada at the 2014 IFAF U-19 World Championship.

Players born in 1995 and 1996 who have a Canadian citizenship and who are members of their respective provincial football association (e.g. Football BC) will be eligible to attend the camps.

Team Canada Junior will be competing against Team USA in a game in Dallas, Texas on February 7, 2014.

There is no identification scheduled for British Columbia. The closest evaluation camp to BC will be held in Edmonton, Alberta at the Commonwealth Recreation Centre Field House on December 15, 2013.

There are also tryouts scheduled for Guelph, Ontario (November 30), East Hants, Nova Scotia (December 7), Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (December 14), and Montreal, Quebec (December 21).

Team Canada hopefuls are required to bring their own shoulder pads, jersey, helmet, mouth guard and proper footwear to the tryout session.


BC Football Hall of Fame seeking nominations for the Class of 2014

Nominations are welcomed for the 2014 Inductions to the BC Football Hall of Fame.

Categories include: Athlete (both amateur and professional), Builder, Pioneer, Media and Teams (both amateur and professional).

The Hall is looking for worthy candidates from across the province of British Columbia, especially in the amateur categories.
