Help build a better Canadian game

Football Canada is reviewing the current competition of amateur football in Canada and is seeking your feedback.

How can you help?

During the 2014 football season, Football Canada will be asking for feedback in the form of surveys as well as emails. Feedback is essential from the football community at-large (athletes, coaches, officials, parents, administrators, trainers, etc.) in an effort to grow and support this great game from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

Have your voice heard in the process by completing Football Canada's surveys here. Please select the surveys that match the age group and gender of athletes you are involved with.

Click here to access the surveys.

BC High School Football game of the week preview - St. Thomas More Knights at Notre Dame Jugglers

Friday, September 5
Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex West
Kickoff at 7:30 pm PT
Watch online at www.SportsCanada.TV

It may only be the exhibition season but both the St. Thomas More Knights and the Notre Dame Jugglers will be trying to make a statement this Friday.

The Knights, ranked second in The Province's pre-season rankings, want to show they are a legitimate contender to the throne that has been occupied for the last three years by the Mt. Douglas Rams. The Jugglers, meanwhile, are coming off a rough 2013 campaign and just wanted to be included in the same conversation as the rest of those upper echelon teams. A win over the Knights, even of the exhibition variety, could go a long way for the Jugglers.

The Knights and Jugglers met once last season in exhibition play with St. Thomas More coming away with a 28-7 victory.

SFU vs Menlo College preview

By Michiko Araki

Saturday, September 6
Swangard Stadium
Kickoff at 12 pm PT
Watch online at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/sfu/

Under the tutelage of new head coach Jacques Chapdelaine, a former Offensive Coordinator for the BC Lions, all eyes will be on the SFU Clan as they look to win their non-conference home opener at Swangard Stadium, their new home field this season.

The Clan boasts an impressive returning roster of players, especially among their receiving core. With three players who have been named to a GNAC All-Conference team recently in their SFU Football careers, this group is sure to make an impact. This group includes Lemar Durant, an All-American who was forced to miss last season due to injury, Jamal Kett, former GNAC Freshman of the Year, and Bobby Pospischil, who led the team in receiving last year.

With a new coaching staff and key returning players, including GNAC All-Conference second team running back Chris Tolbert, the Clan will look to improve on their 3-7 record from last season.

Their opponents, the Menlo College Oaks, posted a 5-5 record in their 2013 season in the NAIA and are looking to get their 2014 campaign started on a positive note as well.

UBC at Regina preview

By Michiko Araki

Friday, September 5
University of Regina
Kickoff at 6 pm PT
Watch online at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ubc/

The UBC Thunderbirds will open their 2014 Canada West regular season on the road against the University of Regina Rams.

Fresh off of their August training camp, the Thunderbirds will look to capture their first win of regular season play and improve on last year's 4-4 regular season record and first round playoff loss to Calgary, the Vanier Cup finalists. The Thunderbirds will have 19 of 24 players returning from last season, including three CIS All-Canadians: Jas Dhillon, Donovan Dale, and Quinn van Gylswyk.

The Rams, coming off of a tough 2-6 season, have nine returning offensive and eight returning defensive starters.

Both teams are looking to start their seasons off with a convincing win in order to capture a spot at the 50th Vanier Cup, the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championship, taking place in Montreal this year.
