Football BC at the Langley Rams / Okanagan Sun game

Football BC's media crew had a chance to take in the Langley Rams Alumni Bowl game when they hosted the Okanagan Sun on August 30 in a battle of two of the top teams in the BCFC.

The Sun triumphed 52-10 in a game where the score wasn't necessarily indicative of how close the game actually was at one point.

Check out some of our features.

VMFL Midget Game of the Week Preview - Comox Valley Raiders @ North Surrey Bears

By Michiko Araki

Monday, September 7  - Bear Creek Park
Kickoff at 2:30 PM (PT)

Labour Day Monday will be the day that the work officially begins for the North Surrey Bears as they begin the process of defending their Midget championship by hosting the Comox Valley Raiders on home turf.

The Bears are expected to be a top contender once again in 2015 and look more than ready to start the season, winning their association's 46th annual Bronze Boot tournament last weekend.

The Raiders went 3-7 during the 2014 regular season and finished with the second fewest points scored in the Midget division. Their lone visit to Bear Creek Park last season was a forgettable one as they were blanked 47-0. With that being said, the Raiders finished last season on a three-game win streak and will look to continue on that positive note.

Even though they will be a major underdog in Week 1, the Raiders will look to show that they won't be an easy team to beat!

Other Midget games this week (all on Sunday, September 6):

Cloverdale Bengals @ White Rock Titans -
12:30 pm (South Surrey Athletic Park)

Chilliwack Giants @ Victoria Spartans (Westhill Stadium)

BYE: Langley Stampeders, Coquitlam Falcons, Cowichan Timbermen

UBC Thunderbirds @ Calgary Dinos preview

By Michiko Araki

Friday, September 4 - McMahon Stadium, Calgary
Kickoff at 4:30 PM (PT)

After the Blake Nill era started off with a historic 41-16 win over Laval last week, the UBC Thunderbirds hit the road to take on Coach Nill's old program, the Calgary Dinos, in their season opener.

In his UBC debut, quarterback Michael O'Connor completed 18 of 32 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. His touchdown passes were caught by Trivel Pinto and Marshall Cook, who caught their first-ever Canadian Interuniversity Sport touchdowns of their respective careers. On special teams, Marcus Davis showed why he's the reigning Canada West Rookie of the Year by returning a punt 85 yards for a touchdown. The defence was especially crucial in their matchup against Laval, as the Thunderbirds recorded four picks, led by Kevin Wiens who had two including a 30-yard pick six. Other players of note were Terrell Davis and Troy Hansen who led the team with six tackles each.

The Dinos are also coming off of a preseason win, beating the University of Regina Rams by a score of 25-9. The team is led by quarterback Andrew Buckley, who helped the team to a 6-2 record last season and won the 2014 Hec Crighton Trophy, an award that recognizes the nation's top college football player. In last week's game, Buckley saw limited action, throwing six of ten for 90 yards and scoring a 10 yard major of his own, while running back Quentin Chown carried the biggest load for the team with 14 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown. On defence, Nathan Mitchell led the team with five tackles while Boston Rowe recorded two tackles for a loss, including the lone sack for the Dinos.

Can the Thunderbirds topple the Dinos, or will the Dinos claw past the Thunderbirds? Tune in this week to find out!
